Case Study: Enhancing Energy Efficiency and Aesthetics
with Modern Aluminium Windows

Client: S. Ashton

Overview

Our client, located in Durisdeer, Thornhill, Dumfries and Galloway, owned a charming cottage property boasting stunning views. Seeking to upgrade from old UPVC windows to modern, thermally efficient alternatives, they approached us for a solution that would enhance both energy performance and aesthetics.

Project Requirements

1. Energy Efficiency: The client desired thermally efficient windows with slimmer sightlines compared to UPVC, ensuring maximum insulation.
2. Maximizing Glass and Light: They wanted to change the window configuration to optimize natural light and panoramic views.
3. Aesthetic Appeal: The chosen windows needed to complement the cottage’s rustic charm while offering a modern look.
4. Durability: A durable finish was essential to withstand the elements in their exposed location.
5. Ventilation: Trickle vents for ventilation were required, necessitating a head extension at the top of each frame.

Solution Provided

We recommended our Alitherm Aluminium range, known for its thermal efficiency and sleek design. Key features included:
• Thermal Efficiency: With a 1.4 U-value and thermal break technology, these windows ensure maximum energy efficiency.
• Window Configuration: Top hung casement openers were suggested to maximize glass area and light intake.
• Aesthetic Choice: The client chose Antique Green SEN012 for the exterior and White for the interior, complemented by white handles for a timeless look.
• Durability: All Aluminium Windows come with a powder-coated finish and a 25-year guarantee, providing long-lasting performance in challenging environments.
• Ventilation: Trickle vents were incorporated into the design, with head extensions added to accommodate them.

Installation Process

Given the existing internal subframes, all finishes had to be completely removed and redone. The client opted for MDF finishes internally, ensuring a seamless integration with the cottage’s interior.

Client Feedback

The client expressed thorough satisfaction with the end result, particularly praising the final look of the frames and internal finish. They were delighted to enjoy undisturbed views of their picturesque surroundings while benefitting from improved energy efficiency and ventilation.

Conclusion

This project showcases our commitment to providing tailored solutions that combine modern technology with traditional aesthetics. Through careful planning and expert installation, we were able to deliver a solution that met the client’s requirements and exceeded their expectations, resulting in another successful project by PT Glazing.
