Case Study: Window and Door Replacement at The Plush Apartments, Speirs Wharf, Glasgow
Client: M. Leel
Project Overview
PT Glazing was commissioned to replace six old timber casement windows and one patio door at Speirs Wharf, Glasgow. This top-floor apartment offers stunning panoramic views of Glasgow, making it essential for the new windows and doors to maximize natural light while maintaining the building’s historical charm.
About Speirs Wharf
Speirs Wharf is a historic landmark in Glasgow, originally built in 1851 as the headquarters for the Forth & Clyde Navigation Company and the City of Glasgow Grain Mills and Stores. In 1989, many of these iconic industrial buildings were transformed into modern apartments, offering residents a unique blend of historical architecture and contemporary living with beautiful waterside views.
Customer Requirements & Challenges
The homeowner sought to replace the existing windows and doors with high-performance aluminium alternatives, prioritizing:
• Easy to operate windows for improved functionality.
• Maximum energy efficiency through superior glazing.
• Aesthetic consistency with the existing design and colour scheme.
A key challenge was the top-floor location. With a narrow stairwell and small elevator, transporting large window units to the apartment posed logistical difficulties.
Our Solution
After visiting our showroom, the client opted for a bespoke aluminium window and door solution:
• System: 600 Series Aluminium Windows & Patio Door.
• Finish: Textured Grey, ensuring seamless integration with the building’s existing aesthetic.
• Configuration: Side-hung aluminium casement windows with sloped bead and sculptured internal frames.
• Hardware: Black inline handles for a sleek, modern touch.
• Glazing: Triple glazing for enhanced thermal performance.
• Internal Finishing: Oak-laminated internal cills, providing a warm, natural wood-like appearance.
The 600 Series was specifically chosen for its ability to accommodate larger window sizes, making it the perfect fit for this project.
Installation Process and Outcome
The installation was completed over four days, involving not only window and door replacements but also the installation of new internal cills. Despite the logistical challenges, our expert team ensured a smooth and efficient process. Upon completion, the client immediately noticed the difference, praising:
• Improved insulation and energy efficiency
• Smoother window operation
• A high quality internal finish that enhanced the overall look of the apartment

This project at Speirs Wharf showcases PT Glazing’s expertise in delivering bespoke aluminium window and door solutions, even in historically significant buildings with installation challenges. By focusing on functionality, efficiency, and aesthetic integration, we provided a seamless upgrade that met the client’s needs and exceeded expectations.
